HyDrive Engineering Pty Ltd began manufacturing hydraulic boat steering equipment in South Australia from 1966 and since that time, has been one of the world leaders in boat steering technology. The largest manufacturer in the Southern Hemisphere, HyDrive boasts sales of more than 800,000 units around the world.
The range of hydraulic boat steering has increased dramatically over the past 20 years with considerable emphasis being placed on the growing need for more efficient and powerful steering equipment to handle larger vessels, and larger horsepower on smaller vessels. Now, HyDrive has a product range which caters to all types of vessels from 5 metres to over 100 metres.
The product range includes:
Commander Series:
The Commander Series is designed to offer a budget range of hydraulic steering to leisure boat users without sacrificing quality and performance. The new range is designed for use on smaller horsepower outboards and also inboards and jets.
For larger outboard applications, the Commander Series PRO versions which upgrade the helm units to the model 401 or 101 offer a wider range of HP capacities and commercial applications.
For large HP outboard systems and high performance use in severe conditions, see details on the Admiral Series which features chrome plated marine brass, bronze and stainless steel cylinders for outboards – giving the maximum corrosion resistance and strength of any outboard steering system on the market.
Admiral Series:
FOR OUTBOARDS, STERNDRIVES INBOARDS & JETS
The Admiral Series is recognised world-wide as probably the most powerful and corrosion- resistant range of outboard steering systems available for outboards.
For high horsepower installations on leisure or commercial vessels, the Admiral Series is the optimum choice. There are no direct equivalents made by other manufacturers, who almost exclusively manufacture their cylinders from aluminium. The HyDrive Admiral range cylinders are made of the finest marine brass, bronze and stainless steel – giving you the best possible protection against the toughest marine environments and extreme performance.
The same corrosion resistant design is included in models for in-boards and jets.
For lighter duty applications, the Commander Series is designed to offer a budget range of hydraulic steering to leisure boat users without sacrificing quality and performance. The new range is designed for use on smaller horsepower outboards and also inboards and jets.
Admiral HD Series:
FOR INBOARDS & JETS
HyDrive’s HD Series steering systems are designed for use on small to medium inboard vessels of all types including:
Power Assisted Steering:
Hydrive has a range of power steering systems to suit most vessels from 10 metres to 200 metres depending on rudder torque.
Power systems are available in a choice of engine-driven or electric driven pumps in both AC or DC.
E Series Electronic Steering:
FOR ALL TYPES OF POWER VESSELS 10 Metres to 30 Metres
The HyDrive E-Series Commander system provides a very simple and reliable electronic steering system which can be fitted to either new boats, or to boats already fitted with power- assisted steering systems.
The standard system can provide up to 3 follow-up positions and virtually unlimited non-follow-up (joystick) positions for versatile steering on even large vessels.
Integrated Electronic Steering:
FOR SUPERYACHTS AND COMMERCIAL VESSELS
The HyDrive E-Series fully integrated electronic steering systems provide state-of-the-art electronic steering with full control panels which incorporate total monitoring of the AC switchboards and hydraulic power pack as well as the electronic control status.
Multiple stations, full alarm systems and in-build dodge controls are just some of the many features of the HyDrive professional E-SERIES control and steering systems. Ideal for large superyachts and commercial vessels of all types up to over 100 metres.

In 1908, Mr. Masson founded his company in Courbevoie near Paris, France where a whole range of marine transmissions were made for both fixed and controllable pitch propellers, purpose-built for workboats. In the 70s, Masson moves to its present location in Sens, France, as a part of Pont-à-Mousson group to design power take-off drives for auxiliary equipment such as pumps and generators including gearboxes for buses, and brake disks for railway vehicles.
From 1981 to 1993, Renk, belonging to MAN group, took over Masson. During this period, a whole new generation of large reduction ratio marine transmissions were developed.
In 1999, ZF acquisition created ZF-Masson with development and production of controllable pitch propellers for propulsion systems.
In November 2005, Masson become independent and create Masson-Marine S.A.S.
In January 2007, Masson-Marine takes over the sales and acquire the know-how of France's leader in the field of controllable pitch propellers: France Hélices.
Masson Marine products equip all kinds of vessels in work applications, such as barges, fishing boats, naval ships, supply vessels, ferries, life boats, pilot boats.
Power ranges from 370 kW to 3 700 kW, with reduction ratios as high as 14, and propeller diameters up to 5 meters.
Countless possibilities of adaptation and of life and clutch-controlled PTO attachments make Masson Marine the one comprehensive solution for your marine propulsion system.
Masson-Marine are able to offer you complete propulsion solutions, not only for the propulsion of the ship itself, through controllable pitch propellers (CPP), fixed pitch propellers, or electrical azimuth thruster, but for driving pumps and generators, too, and all other auxiliary equipment (winches, compressors, etc.) as required.
